j'dess

Artiste: J’Dess
Song title: Kpakpando
Download link: http://www.netnaija.com/music/gospel/272-jdess-kpakpando

1st impression:
D chorus is d bomb. I can neva get tired of listenin 2it & singin it

Vocal power:
J’Dess’ voice is as swt as honey & as refreshin as cold water in a desert

Production quality:
D production is superb & well-mixed too. U need 2hear d instrumental

Lyrical content:
D song is well-written from start 2 finish. J’Dess has clearly mastered d art of turnin even rhymeless lines in2 a song full of harmonious rhythm. D way she combines English & Igbo so easily is truely mind-blowin

Originality:
Dis is a highly original song. D way J’Dess sings “Twinkle twinkle little star” towards d end of d song makes u wonda.

Genre & Local appeal:
Dis is inspirational R&B or gospel R&B.

2nd impression:
a) Wat do I luv best about it?
I overlove d chorus. Its so easy 2sing-along 2ova & ova & ova again.
b) Wat do I hate most about it?
D question shud b ‘wat did I like least?’ bcos it’s hard 2find anythin 2hate in dis song. Ok, I didnt like d ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ endin but d way J’Dess sang it was great!

Rating:
9/10 (or 90%)

My prophecy:
Dis song is a mega-hit alredy. It jst need massive promotion & a video

REVIEW: EVERYBODY DANCE -YUNG PRINZZY & ICE D

Song title: Everybody Dance
Artistes: Ice D & Yung Prinzzy
Download link: http://www.datafilehost.com/d/7a8e8849

ice d yung prinzy

1st impression:
D Akwa Ibom rap is d bomb

Vocal power:
Yung Prinzzy’s voice needs a lil bit more training. But d Akwa Ibom bass voice backup in d chorus was excellent.

Production quality:
Xris Fity did well here. D beat go make u shake ur body. Even if u no wan dance, u go dey nod ur nod 2d beat.

Lyrical content:
Dis song has jst d usual chillin in d club lyrics.

Originality:
D originality of dis song lies in Ice D’s Akwa Ibom rap men. Its really a breath of fresh air 2my ears.

Genre & Local appeal:
Dis is Naija hiphop & Nigerians will like it.

2nd impression:

a) Wat do I luv best about it?
I luv luv luv d Akwa Ibom rap. Ice D killed it in my opinion. He’s like Akwa Ibom’s Dagrin.

b) Wat do I hate most about it?
I didnt like Yung Prinzzy’s delivery of his verse in English. It didnt sound natural.

Rating:
6.5 / 10 (or 65%)

My prophecy:
If Ice D continues wit dis his Akwa Ibom rap eh, he’ll surely blow.

CoCo IS A NO! NO!

O.T Genasis nawa 4u o! U no try at all men *shakin my head*

So I was watchin a music channel here in Nigeria d other day, wen O.T Genasis’ song CoCo came on. D 1st time I saw it, I tink it was a remix or somethin cos wat i heard dat time was “I’m in love with your coco…” Den they’d show girls dancin. I thought maybe it was about girls’ yansh as is usual wit all dese hiphop songs dese days.

But wen i saw d original version, men d tin scatter my head. I heard d guy sayin “I’m in love with the CoCo” Den they were showin cocaine & dollars everywhere.

I was so so angry. Why shud dis station b showin dis song glorifyin cocaine so freely in Nigeria? Why naa? Wen 1 stupid rich man’s son will b inspired by d song 2sniff coke now, na madness or Yaba Left go b him portion. Or wen poor man pikin go talk sey him mst go abroad go do cocaine business now, & Indonesia govt com kill am, na dat time Naija govt go dey cry.

Pls take note, my uncle was killed in Indonesia about 14yrs ago 4being in luv wit d sellin of d CoCo. Na why dis song & dis issue dey pain me like dis.

Anyway, wen I com google d lyrics of d song eh, I found out d song has been banned in d USA. Very good! I found out d O.T Genasis guy even has a lil son who luvs his father’s cocaine song. Chai! Very dumb! Very dumb of a father!

Koko Master, D’banj, abeg we need u 2 remix dis song 4d Nigerian audience. I go prefer 2hear “I’m in love with the COCOA” or even “I’m in love with her KOKO” dan dis cocaine-glorifyin “I’m in love with the CoCo” nonsense. *hisses*

King kObOkO go rate dis stupid song 1/10 or 10%

Mama’s Beat Dey Blow My Mind o!

Happy 2015 2everybody.

I jst heard dis Frank Edward’s song Mama’s Beat ft Joey Drums. D instrumental & beats is more dan amazin wallahi. They let d instrumental play 4 about 2mins & 50secs b4 Frank Edwards started singin.

I neva hear dis kain beat on any Naija song b4. Men, I’m really impressed. I hail whoeva produced dis song. I heard Rich boy on d mix. (Oga Frank, na u produce dis beat or was it only d mixin u did?) Na u biko.

But d person wey I dey comot cap 4 na Joey Drums d drummer. Wow!!! His drummin is so so powerful. D only kind of songs I’v heard dis kind of drummin is on Lucky Dube’s songs or on some of dose Cold Play rock songs.

I wish more Naija artistes can use dis kind of live drummin on their beats instead of all dis digital beats wey dem dey use everytime. Its true dat live recording of instruments is more expensive but its worth it o! Esp 4artistes lik 2Baba, Wizkid, Kcee, Tiwa Savage etc wey get d money. Producers lik Don Jazzy, Masterkraft, Shizzy etc shud take note abeg.

U people need 2listen 2dis song 2undastand wat I’m talkin about. Jst google “Mama’s Beat Frank Edwards ft Joey Drums” 2find &download it.

(Oga Frank, I dont tink dis amazin song was given d kinda promotion it deserves o! Dis kain song suppose win Grammy, I swear.)

REVIEW: HERE TO STAY – NEGGRO

Song title: Here To Stay

Artiste: Neggro

Download link: http://tinyurl.com/ ovh82hp

1st impression:
Luv at 1st hearin. I go leave dis song 4 my phone. I no fit delete am. No way.

Vocal power:
He took extra time 2 record many backup vocals which makes d song full & well balanced

Production quality:
Neggro is a damn good producer. Dis na d kind of high quality production u go get 4 Lagos. I thot he was actually based dere till he told me na o bukwa Nwa 042

Lyrical content:
Check out d intro
“Me & u is magic.
Ups & down, but here like elastic.
I gav u my hrt. U gav me ur hrt.
2geda we go stay, we no go eva depart.”
Den d killer chorus
“Girl, I wanna let u know.
Me I no fit let u go.
No b minimanimo.
Dis luv I get 4 u, no b China.
Dis luv I get 4 u, I swear na final.
Ololufeeeee, my girl I’m here 2 staaaaay.
Cos my luv 4 u na follow-come, na follow-come.
My luv 4 u na follow-come, no b Chinaaaaa.”

Wow! Dis kind of intelligent lyrics proves dat Neggro sits down 2 write & properly arrange his lyrics. I wish more Nigerian artistes did d same.

Originality:
D pidgin is so on point & even d American wanna gonna sounds so Naija

Genre & Local appeal:
Dis is Afropop. Nigerians wil definitely dance 2 dis jam.

2nd impression:

a) Wat do I luv most bout it?
D lyrics. D production. D delivery

b) Wat do I hate most bout it?
D title. I wud hav preferred a title like “No Be China” (Meanwhil, make I jst forgiv Neggro 4 addin dat unnecessary mosquito-like outro “Oh girl, I’m here 2 stay 4 u” at d very end of d song)

Rating:
8/10 or 80%

My prophecy:
All dis song needs now is promotion cos na hit alredy wallahi

REVIEW: NO BE HERE – NEGGRO

Song title: No Be Here

Artiste: Neggro

Download link: http://tinyurl.com/nc72wks

1st impression:
I luv d instrumentals though I felt d absence of rap

Vocal power:
D voicin on d chorus sounded real & natural while d voicin on d verses sounded fake & artificial

Production quality:
Neggro’s production no b here; its international. But I wud’ve loved 2hear dat particular instrument dat he used at d last 30seconds of d track much much earlier (maybe towards d middle of d track)

Lyrical content:
“They say beauty’s in d eyes of beholder but she fine 4my eyes even 4d eyes of d artiste. Afta my mama, u’r d next 2 Jehovah. So b my Beyonce make I b ur Hova…” Very intelligent lines here.
But “MY luv no b here” wud’ve worked beta dan “Dis luv no b here” since in dis song he’s talkin face 2 face & hrt 2 hrt wit his girl not 2 us d listeners.

Originality:
I hav 1 question 4 Neggro: Why u no use pidgin sing dis song throughout na?

Genre & Local appeal:
Dis is R & B. Its a pity dat Naija doesn’t enjoy beatless songs

2nd impression:
a) Wat do I luv best bout it?
Neggro’s production & d pidgin chorus
b) Wat do I hate most bout it?
D lack of rap or a rapper on track made it sound boring & tiring

Rating:
6 / 10 (or 60%)

My advice:
Dis song go complete once Neggro features an indigenous or wicked slow rapper on it or on its remix

REVIEW: LADIES – DWEEZ FT XRIS FITY

Dweez

Song title: Ladies

Artistes: Dweez, Xris Fity

Download link: http://www.kiwi6.com/file/c46kys1klo

1st impression:
I luv dis song. I imagined Akon singin it.

Vocals:
Dweez tried 4 a 1st timer but Xris Fity’s voice is d bomb

Production quality:
Xris Fity did well. D beat feels so unNigerian, so exportable. I especially luv d military instrument (dat 1 wey dey sound lik war trumpet. Wetin dem dey call dat instrument again abeg?)

Lyrical content:
“This is for my ladies, ladies… Yeah” Simple lyrics of a boy who has had his hrt broken by a lady.

Originality:
I don’t think Dweez was tryin 2 sound lik Akon o! But u keep hearin dat Akon influence. It’s a good influence shaa.

Genre & Local appeal:
I’ll call dis R&B. D Lagos folks will definitely feel dis song.

2nd impression:
I listened 2dis song ova & ova again.
a) Wat I luv best bout dis song is Xris Fity’s powerful voice on d chorus & d way Dweez made luv 2d beat on d verses.
b) Wat I hated most bout dis song is maybe d autotune.

Rating:
7/10 or 70%

Prophecy:
I’m very impressed wit dis Dweez’ debut song. Wizkid, watch out 4 dis Wizkid from d East o! He delivers wit every entertainment zeal. Xris Fity’s voice & production skill will sure take him far. Very far.

I FIT DIE ON TOP CLARENCE PETERS’ MATTER

I luv Wizkid’s On Top Your Matter. But I hate the video. D 1st time I watched it, I hissed. Rubbish! I even felt angry bcos d video almost made me hate d song sef. But I still luv d song. Without d stupid video shaa.

Wat da fuck wat Sesan thinkin wen he shot dat video? Yes, d pictures ar very clear. Very sharp & very clean. No be d quality of d video b my wahala. Wetin dey vex me b sey d lyrics no dey rhyme wit d pictures. It’s jst lik watchin a football match while d commentator is commentatin on a wrestlin match. E no dey rhyme.

Ok, make una judge d matter. How does an ajebutter boy who’s rockin an earring & carryin his ajebutter babe rhyme wit “I fit die on top ur matter eeee… Baby o!”?

I was expectin somethin very different & more creative. I was expectin a video wit a concept dat wud fit wit a guy who’s ready 2 die on top his babe’s matter. A babe who probably sacrificed her all & stuck wit her bobo wen he was still drinkin garri. But, 4 where? Sesan preferred 2show me beautiful scenery instead of d beautiful luv storyline I kept imaginin in my head each time I heard “I fit die on top ur matter eeee… Baby o!”

Ironically, I didn’t like Davido’s Aye. But wen I saw d video, wallahi I fell in luv wit d song. D video was jst perfect. Clarence Peters didn’t jst use d obvious pictures Davido painted wit his lyrics. He didn’t show us a Ferrari 4 instance even though “She say she no want Ferrari…”

Wat did Clarence do instead? He shows us a village/rural scene wit a princess or queen who falls in luv wit a poor farmer. She doesn’t care about him not havin a thousand tubers of yam or of him not being a chief’s son. She luvs him & sneaks out of her palace jst 2b wit him. How brilliant!! How creative!! D concept too make sense!!

Clarence-Peters

Clarence Peters, i ga-egbu mmadu o! In fact, I baptize u Brilliance Peters or Concept Peters. U too much. D best tin about praisin u is dat u’v done excellently well repeatedly in ur previous works & u keep doing well & even gettin beta. Concept Peters, ur consistency & creativity is mind-blowin abeg. I can’t wait 4d day u’ll start shootin videos 4 Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga & others. I can’t wait 4d day u’ll reshoot Wizkid’s On Top Your Matter video.

Oga Sesan no take am personal o! U did a very good job on Wizkid’s Jaiye Jaiye & I think ur video of Davido’s Skelewu is far beta dan Moe Musa’s copy copy version.

But I’m dyin 2 see wat Concept Peters will do wit On Top Your Matter. Until den, On Top Your Matter neva get video. 2 me shaa.
